Symphogear XV infodump #2

Hi all! Another week and another update on the XV site. This time all of the subcharacter bios have been added, so I went ahead and translated them. It's not as big of an update as last time, but there's still some amusing stuff in here. Enjoy and as always, comments are welcome. Thanks for reading.

Characters

Miku Kohinata

Hibiki Tachibana’s best friend and sunshine. A symbol of the ordinary life she should always return to. However, Miku herself carries some very complex feelings about it all. Wasn’t she the one responsible on that day, for burdening her dear friend with this fate to sing until she coughs up blood? Miku desperately wants to do something to make it up to Hibiki, but she knows that acting on that impulse would only burden her further.

If she does nothing but keep those feelings suppressed inside, the day will come when she must inevitably shade her eyes from that dazzling smile. Why do people struggle so much to convey their feelings? The questions that Miku always asks herself continue to plague her again today.

Elfnein

A girl who serves as an advisor to S.O.N.G. as they deal with any and all supernatural threats. She is proficient in many fields including black art technology, but specializes in alchemy. Elfnein’s body is something that she inherited from the alchemist known as Carol, who could be considered another version of her.

Rather than calling her a workaholic, it’s easier to describe her as an individual who knows nothing but work. Even on her days off, she choses not to leave headquarters and instead spends time in her laboratory, immersing herself in experiments related to her hobby of brain and memory function.

Genjuro Kazanari

The commander who is in charge of the UN’s supernatural disaster taskforce known as S.O.N.G. He is understanding and sympathetic to the trauma that the adaptors face out on the battlefield. Genjuro himself is master of combat who is well-versed in the martial arts.

However, he has had few opportunities to be on the frontlines as of late. Instead, he has been focused almost solely on dealing with threats of intrigue and treachery, coming from both within and outside of Japan. In the past, he was a police officer assigned to the public safety division. People familiar with his work from around that time call him “The Razor”.

Shinji Ogawa

He is a skilled agent assigned to S.O.N.G.’s investigation unit. He maintains a public cover as the manager of the pop singer Tsubasa Kazanari. He has worked alongside the commander, Genjuro Kazanari, for a long time.

Occasionally, he can be seen in headquarters acting as Genjuro’s right-hand man. When necessary, he does not hesitate to join the supernatural battles on the frontlines. He uses handheld weapons and vehicles to perform modern-day ninjutsu in combat.

Sakuya Fujitaka

One of the operators who works to keep tabs on the Symphogear adaptor’s combat status. He mainly deals with data processing and is a recognized authority on trajectory calculations. He has a habit of making unnecessary comments and pointless complaints, but this can perhaps be considered a side-effect of his skills in observation and analysis. His personality is cowardly and cautious, just like any normal person.

Aoi Tomosato

One of the operators who works to keep tabs on the Symphogear adaptor’s combat status. She mainly deals with data processing, but is also an important source of mental support as she expresses gentle concern for the adaptors. She has a very kind, yet tough personality. She has occasionally used her handgun to get involved in the action, putting some of the male staff members to shame. Her skills with a gun are enough to surprise even the staff who specialize in firearms. She also is a qualified instructor in coffee brewing.

Yatsuhiro Kazanari

Tsubasa Kazanari’s father (per official documents), and Genjuro’s older brother. He is the Director of Cabinet Intelligence in the Japanese government. He works from the shadows to assure the country’s national security. He holds a lot of clout not just within the country, but also within the International community.

In the past, his shrewd and calm personality left the impression of someone very cruel. However, as he forged a closer relationship with his daughter Tsubasa, he has slowly begun to learn “passion” and reinforced his faith in politics. In truth, he is an incredibly doting parent, but just like his daughter, struggles awkwardly to express himself.

Fudo Kazanari

Despite being well over the age of 100, he is still healthy and active. He is a political fixer who pulls many strings in Japan. He was the very first commander of the Singular Disaster Anti-Riot Unit’s Second Division, however he was forced to resign after being caught up in a scandal. He left the position to his younger son, Genjuro, and then confined himself to his residence.

This was believed to be a sign of his retirement, however he only hid himself from public view to starting exerting his influence in secret. It was his efforts that forced Japan’s disaster defense bill into law. He is without a doubt, a true example of the Japanese “sentinel”. He works to safeguard the very foundations of the country. All of his former political rivals feared him, unanimously referring to him as a “monster”.

Impressions

There's not too much to say about these. There have been some interesting changes from past seasons. For example, Fujitaka's profile no longer makes fun of him, haha. As always, Genjuro's profile comes with a reference to a movie. Technically speaking "the razor" was Hanzo's nickname and the one stated on Genjuro's page is just the title of the movie series "Goyokiba", but I thought it would sound cooler the other way around. Also, Fudo's summary really makes him out to be the big baddie. Not only is he super old, but they used to call him a "monster". I could totally see him pulling the "I must live forever because only I am good enough to save Japan" and then using some power to turn himself into an immortal monster thing. We'll see.

Perhaps the most interesting entry among all of these is Miku's, since it's hinting at a lot. Longtime fans will remember that ever since season 1, there has been a certain thing Miku has tried to tell Hibiki. In each season there is at least one or two scenes where Miku tries to confess to something, but was always interrupted or didn't have the courage. It seems XV will finally be the opportunity for her to do it. However, it is worrisome that she still carries guilt for Hibiki's situation. We all remember the last time Miku took it upon herself to try and make things better...

Anyway, there should be more updates coming our way. Stay tuned!
