Announcing a Symphogear contest!

I'm having a small contest during our wait for Symphogear season 2! The prizes aren't anything big, but I have a few spare items that I'd like to give away to other fans. It will require some effort to enter, but I promise it's not anything too hard. In fact, it should be really fun!

Read on for the details!

Okay so, the first thing you need to do is read this short fan-comic (translated by me):

This comic was my inspiration for this contest, which is...a recoloring contest! In order words, in order you enter you have to come up with a "2nd player" color for your favorite Symphogear user. It can be Hibiki, Tsubasa, Chris or even Kandade - as long as it's a recolor of their Symphogear outfit. Now this may sound complicated but I'm not expecting you to draw anything! All you have to do is open your favorite editing program (paint, gimp or even photoshop if you have it) and color over an existing image, just like a coloring book. However, if you have the art skills to draw something from scratch you're more than welcome to do so - but do note this isn't a contest of artistic talent...it's more a contest about creativity.

Anyway, let me give you an idea. Now this is something I whipped up in about 10 minutes with photoshop and it's really not impressive at all, but it's the only example I've got at the moment so here is my 2nd player version of Kanade:

You'll notice I altered the outfit a little bit by adding black to where her skin is normally showing, and I also changed her hair color. So when I say creativity that's the kind of stuff I'm talking about - it's not just about changing colors but creating an overall theme or motif that makes the character look unique compared to their original version. Now from this you can clearly tell I'm color-challenged because this doesn't really look good at all, haha, but I mostly chose colors at random so I hope you can all do a better job than me.

Alright, so here's a list of rules to abide by:

1) You can use any image you want to recolor - fan art, official art, etc.
2) Your image can be recolored digitally or you can do it by hand and upload a picture of it.
3) Only one entry per person and one recolored character per entry.

It should be pretty simple, but if you have questions please leave a comment and I will address it.

The contest will run from today through the end of April, so you have until May 1st to submit your entry.

To submit your entry send an email with an attachment of your recolor to: zoidzero1@gmail.com and use the subject line: "Symphogear Contest Entry." Make sure you send it from an email you actually check because I will replying to the winners after I announce them on the blog (likely during the first week of May).

Okay, now I'm sure you're all curious what the prizes are so here we go:

Symphogear mini-posters
Tsubasa photo prints
Petanko Musume rubber keychains

There will be 4 winners in total. First place gets their choice of 3 mini-posters, 1 choice of keychain plus 1 of the Tsubasa photo prints. Second place will get their choice of 2 mini-posters, 1 keychain and the Tsubasa photo print. Third place will get their choice of 1 mini-poster and the remaining keychain. Last place will get the 2 remaining mini-posters.

If you're curious about the size of the mini-posters, here's one of them compared to a US quarter:

Well, that's it. If you need help finding an image please say so, I have a bunch. Good luck to you all!

  2. I have a question about their outfits. When you say their Symphogear outfits, do you mean only their normal Symphogear, or can we also use the true Symphogear from the finale or (in Chris's case), Nehusthan?

    1. Yes, you can use any of them! The final forms are officially called "XD" forms, but yeah you can use the normal versions, those or the Nehusthan if you like.
